Babies. Newborn babies…it’s wonderful being in the presence of one. I’ve had four of my own, and those first few days with a newborn were some of the most spiritual, emotional, exhausting, and sweetest times of my life. When I brought my babies home from the hospital I took their portraits within 3 or 4 days. (they lose the newborn look after about 8 days) Time flies…the diapers, strollers, and high chairs are long gone…my oldest son just turned 16. The years have added up to hundreds of pictures of my children and I love them all, but their newborn photographs cause a lump to rise in my throat every time I look at them.
During a consultation the father of a bride asked me, “Why does photography cost so much?” And I quietly answered, “It doesn’t cost so much, it’s worth so much.”
Photographs increase in value over time, especially when they’re beautifully done…especially when they make your heart squeeze with the bittersweet love only a parent can feel for their child. As time passes I understand their worth.
