Newborn babies…it’s wonderful being in the presence of one. I’ve had four of my own, and those first few days with a newborn were some of the most spiritual, emotional, exhausting, and sweetest times of my life. I always took their portraits within 3 or 4 days because they lose the newborn look after about 10 days. As we know, time flies…my oldest just turned 16. The years have added up to hundreds of pictures of my children and I love them all, but their newborn photographs cause a lump to rise in my throat every time I look at them.
During a consultation, the father of a bride asked me, “Why does photography cost so much?” I answered, “Because it’s worth so much.”
Photographs increase in value over time, especially when they’re beautifully done…especially when they make your heart squeeze with the bittersweet love a parent feels for their child. As time passes I understand the great worth of a photograph.
